Why was Satan in Heaven and When was He Cast Out?

Number 11

Why Was Satan In Heaven?

God created the angel, Lucifer, and the other angels.

Angels are Sons of God.

Job 1:6, "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them."

Job 2:1, "Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord."

God made Lucifer God of this world with the other angels under him.

II Corinthians 4:4 , "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."

Lucifer rebels against God becoming Satan, taking many of the angels with him.

Revelation 12:4, "And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born."

Study Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:11-19.

Lucifer's rebellion against God causes Spiritual warfare in Heaven, which destroys God's creation. Lucifer, now Satan, was still in Heaven and still god of this world.

In Genesis 1, the Lord rebuilds the destruction caused by Satan's rebellion.

Psalms 104:30, "Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth."

Because of Lucifer's rebellion, he has to be replaced. The Lord creates Adam to replace Satan, but Satan overcomes Adam.

The Father then sends His Son, Jesus, to replace Satan. Jesus, the last Adam, overcomes Satan.

Jesus will replace Satan when He (Jesus) returns.

Revelation 11:15: "And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever."

Why Was Satan Cast Out Of Heaven?

Jesus was crucified and is seated on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty.

Hebrews 8:1: "Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;"

Hebrews 10:12: "But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;"

Hebrews 12:2: "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

Jesus is replacing Satan. Jesus is head of the church and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Satan was ruling the world from the same place before he was cast out.

Satan and Jesus could not both sit on the right hand of the throne of God. Therefore, Satan had to be cast out before Jesus ascended to heaven.

When Was Satan Cast Out Of Heaven?

We don't know the exact time Satan was cast out of heaven, but it was a short time before Jesus was crucified.

Jesus tells His disciples in Luke 10:17-20 that He saw Satan fall from heaven as lightning. This means that Satan had been cast from heaven and was now on the earth with his angels. Jesus tells his disciples He has given them power over Satan and his angels.

Luke 10:17-20

17 "And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name."

18 "And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."

19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

20 "Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven."

We are told in Revelation 12:7-10 Satan was cast out of heaven. Then came salvation and the kingdom of God. Jesus brought salvation and the gospel of the kingdom with Him.

Revelation 12:7-10

7 "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,"

8 "And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven."

9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

10 "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night."

There is one God and one mediator between God and men and this Man is Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:5, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;"

Jesus reconciles while Satan accused us day and night.

Revelation 12:10, "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night."

Jesus is replacing Satan as God of this world.

Revelation 11:15, "And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever."
