The word abomination used as a noun is a familiar term for an idol. A person, an object, and an action can be an abomination.
Deuteronomy 7:25-26
25 “The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therin: for it is an abomination to the Lord thy God.”
26 “Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.”
Deuteronomy 27:15: “Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.”
The Abomination of Desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet and mentioned in Matthew 24:15 will be the Son of Perdition shown in II Thessalonians 2:2-4.
Matthew 24:15,”When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)”
II Thessalonians 2:2-4
2 “That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.”
3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”
4 “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”
Study Daniel 11:31 and Daniel 12:11.

The Abomination of Desolation will sit in the Temple of God which is God’s Spiritual Temple, the Church.
This Temple is not Ezekiel’s Temple which is a physical temple. Jesus Christ Himself will build the Ezekiel Temple after He returns
.
Zechariah 6:11-13,
11″Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;”
12″And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The Branch; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:”
13″Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both. ”
The Abomination of Desolation is the Little Horn of Daniel 7:8,20,21,25.
Daniel 7:8, “I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.”
Daniel 7:20, “And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.”
Daniel 7:21, “I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;”
Daniel 7:25, “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”
He is the King of Daniel 11:36-39.
Daniel 11:36-39
36 “And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.”
37 “Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.”
38 “But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.”
39 “Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.”
He is the Beast of Revelation 13:5,8.
Revelation 13:5, “And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.”
Revelation 13:8, “ And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
What Is The Image of The Beast?
The Beast of Revelation 13:11-15 (The Pope) will tell mankind that they should make an image to the Beast and of the Beast which is the abominable person who claims to be God.
Revelation 13:11-15
11 “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.”
12 “And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.”
13 “And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,”
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.”
15 “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”
The Image of the Beast is an image of the Son of Perdition that sets himself up as God and he wants to be worshiped as God.
The Image of the Beast will be comparable to the Golden Image Nebuchadnezzar made and set up in the plain of Dura.
Daniel 3:1, “Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.”
Anyone who would not fall down and worship the Golden Image would be cast into a fiery furnace.
Daniel 3:5-6
5 “That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:”
6 “And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.”
In the time of the end, anyone who will not worship the Image of the Beast should be killed.
Revelation 13:15, “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”
The Image of the Beast will be ‘placed’ as the Abomination spoken of in Daniel 11:31 was placed.
Daniel 11:31, “And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.”
The last part of verse 27 of Daniel 9 reads: “….For the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
Overspreading: Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance#3671 from #3670: an edge or extremity: a pinnacle, to project laterally, etc.
This means the Awful Horror will be placed on an edge or extremity of the building projecting laterally and will remain there until the one who put it there meets the end which God has prepared for him.
This Awful Horror will be the Image of the Beast.
This abominable person is also comparable to Antiochus IV Epiphanes who placed a symbol of the Olympian Zeus or Baal Shamen upon the alter of burnt offering in the Jewish temple in Jerusalem on the fifteenth day of Chislev in the year one hundred forty-five.
Jerusalem Bible, Reader’s Edition-I Maccabees 1:52-67: Many of the people – that is, every apostate from the Law-rallied to them, and so committed evil in the country, forcing Israel into hiding in all their places of refuge. On the fifteenth day of Chislev in the year one hundred and forty-five the king erected the abomination of desolation above the alter; and alters were built in the surrounding towns of Judah and incense offered at the doors of houses and in the streets. Any books of the Law that came to light were torn up and burned. Whenever anyone was discovered possessing a copy of the covenant or practicing the Law, the king’s decree sentenced him to death. Having might on their side they took action month after month against any offenders they discovered in the towns of Israel. On the twenty-fifth day of the month, sacrifice was offered on the alter erected over the altar of holocaust. Women who had had their children circumcised were put to death according to the edict with their babies hung around their necks, and the members of their household and those who had performed the circumcision were executed with them.
