The Lord allows Satan to tempt us and we have to overcome him as Jesus did.
You may become rebellious and resentful because of some minor hardship you endure doing the Lord’s work.
The Lord may awake you at three o’clock in the morning to work with you. You may think, ‘Why couldn’t He work with me in the day time?’ You may slightly resent this, but you have never resented this before. Why now? This is due to Satan and human nature.
You have to understand what is happening and stand firm against Satan and human nature. This resentfulness could go on for one day or several days.
You should put on the whole armor of God.
Ephesians 6:10-18
10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
11 “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
13 “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
14 “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;”
15 “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;”
16 “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”
17 “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
Resist Satan, and he will leave you; however, he may not leave you immediately. Therefore, never give up.
Recognize and understand what is happening and you will overcome Satan with the Holy Spirit which is within you.
This example is only one of the many, many ways Satan may use to try to make you give in to him.
We must endure to the end.
Paul tells us about how difficult a time he had overcoming Satan. We have to understand and recognize how Satan works and never stop resisting his temptations.
Romans 7:14-25
14 “For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.”
15 “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.”
16 “If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.”
17 “Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.”
18 “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.”
19 “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.”
20 “Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.”
21 “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.”
22 “For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:”
23 “But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.”
24 “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?”
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.”
Job’s temptation lasted a long time.
Jesus was tempted forty days by Satan in the wilderness but when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a season.
Luke 4:2: “Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.”
Luke 4:13: “And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.”
Satan left Jesus for a season; it is the same with us. He will fight us for a while and when we defeat him he will leave us for a season. However, Satan will return, and we will be able to defeat him again by the spirit which is within us.
The spirit in us is stronger than the spirit in him but we must use the spirit which is within us to overcome Satan. There will be many battles and we must endure to the end.
I John 4:4: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
